Kovalam

Kovalam is one of the most beautiful beach villages located in the southern region of Thiruvananthapuram, which is located at the southern tip of India. It is originally a traditional fishing village that is 16 kilometres away from the city. It offers the traveller with endless sights of the sparkling blue waves, the clean sands with plenty of sun, the ayurvedic resorts that offer traditional Kerala treatment and beach shacks that serve lip-smacking and tasty seafood like lobsters, crabs and tiger-prawns. The beaches also have vendors who sell handicrafts and cool beachwear for the sunny weather.

Kovalam has mainly four beaches. They are the Samudra Beach, the Ashok Beach, the Eve’s beach and the Lighthouse Beach and are all at walking distances from each other. The beaches are clean and warm with endless areas of white sand bed. The fun activities at Kovalam include sunbathing, safe swimming, surfing, catamaran trips and water sports. The waters are shallow and the traveller can walk up to 100 metres in the sea. The tourism department of Kerala provides the beach with a vigilant lifeguard service to avoid harm to life during water sports. The traveller can also view the lovely coral reefs and enjoy snorkelling.

The beach has several Ayurvedic massage centres that offer you with rejuvenating herbal massages based on the ancient texts of Ayurveda. With the commercialisation of the beach, it has become crowded throughout the year with its regular influx of local and international visitors. Being close to Thiruvananthapuram, most of the time it becomes the first destination for the international traveller who takes home many memories and souvenirs from this Paradise of the South.

The traveller can be at ease at the beach, relax in the sun , play in the waves or stroll across the beaches in search of some culinary delight in the shacks.
